LYNN'S DONEGAL

Lynn Temple loves the wildness with which Donegal abounds. A keen sailor, (former) hillwalker and cyclist he gives his best places to visit the hidden county...

1. Best places to sail?

Anywhere in Donegal Bay from Mountcharles pier just outside Donegal town (where the Magee 1866 offices and Magee of Donegal store are located) to wherever the wind takes you and time/weather allow. The Eagle`s Nest, Inver Bay, St. John's Point, Killybegs and so much in between are great places to sail. The Bay [Donegal] is a natural amphitheatre with the hills and Bluestacks making an amazing backdrop.

2. Best cycling routes?

There is a myriad of small roads that lead up the Bluestack mountains from Lough Eske to Slieve League which I love to go on, they aren't easy but I always say no pain no gain!

3. Best places to fish?

Donegal Bay is a great spot for fishing summer mackerel.

4. Best beach?

Fintra, Silver Strand, Portnoo and many more - you really are spoiled for choice in Donegal!

5. Best place to see wildlife?

The whole county with its Wild Atlantic coastline and remote inland hills and valleys are places where you might find rare birds from the chough to the cuckoo.
