Warping Process

Warping

The production process in the mill begins with warping, cones of yarn are wound onto a single beam in preparation for transferring to the loom. This process arranges the parallel threads which lie lengthwise in the loom, the consistency of these threads are vital to ensuring the quality of the final woven product as it ensures straightness and tension of the yarn. Our highly skilled team uses over a century worth of knowledge in ways that no machine can.

Warping Process

Weaving

Once the warp yarns are laid out and prepared to be coupled through the knotting process, the fabric is drawn or pulled through the shafts to allow weaving to begin. The weaving process consists of the interlacing of two sets of yarn, the warp and weft, which cross each other to construct woven fabric, which is produced on power looms and hand looms in our mill.

Finishing Process

Finishing

Fabric undergoes a final finishing process to convert fabric from loom-state to final product. The scouring process uses the peaty waters of the nearby River Eske removing any remaining impurities whilst ensuring we give the fabric the desired aesthetic and handle required.

Finishing Process

Mending

Once woven all fabrics are meticulously examined and mended, if required by hand to ensure it is of the highest quality. This is a highly skilled activity and requires patience and great attention to detail.
