Our CEO of Magee Weaving Patrick Temple, has been working on tending a flock of Cheviot sheep near his home in the hills of Donegal, he explains more about the project here.
1. Why did you start the Cheviot sheep project?
“I always had an interest in farming and kept some cattle, but we are weavers not tanners so sheep was a better fit.”
2. How does it connect with what you are doing at Magee Weaving mill?
“The majority of wool used in the mill is from the warmer southern hemisphere, we at Magee Weaving are keen to use more Irish wool. ”
3. What have you learned from the project?
“The weather has a large impact on the wool quality. ”
4. What do people need to know about Irish wool?
“In addition to clothing it works very well for interiors and is a much better alternative to man-made fibres for carpets. ”
5. What would you like the project to achieve in the coming years?
“Achieving a better handle for use in Magee 1866 collections and for designers alike.”
