Rosy’s Guide to Sea swimming in Donegal

While sea-swimming has become a national pastime over the last number of years, our CEO Rosy Temple has always liked to start the day with a bracing dip in the sea. We talked to her about her favourite spots in Donegal (there’s so many to choose from) and her tips on getting started.

Rosy on sea-swimming in Donegal

Donegal has some of the most amazing swimming spots in Ireland. While it's popular now there has always been a community in Donegal who have loved year-around dips.

Why go sea-swimming?

There is something magic about being in cold water, that resets your perspective and clears your mind. A dip is always refreshing, be it a moment of calm by yourself or enjoyed with the natural camaraderie of other swimmers in the bay!

Secret spots?

Silver Strand is a beautiful off-the-beaten-track beach near Glencolmcille which has crystal clear waters.

How to start?

Start in the summer to acclimatise to the temperature of the water, and make it a practice, work it from a weekly to a daily habit and you’ll reap the benefits. If you are feeling hesitant, find a buddy to share the splash and post swim buzz with!

Post swim ritual?

Make sure to layer up quickly, starting with your upper body, to warm your core up. Naturally, I’m a fan of a proper wool jumper together with throw wrapped over and a hot cup of tea!
