Delighted with my new coat 52R. I am a big lad. Got it from the no fuss, wonderful staff on South Anne Street Dublin. They couldn't be more helpful.
It is oversized as its meant to be. The weave is so thick I am convinced it could stop buck shot. Feels like a warm blanket but has great movement. Got a very Peter O'Toole on the lash in 1970s Dublin feel about it. Took it for a walk on the beaches in Skerries & Rush in mid storm didn't feel the cold at all.
I look forward to getting some Guinness stains, cigar smoke & cartridge creosote aroma on it over the years that will make it true vintage. Also the deep pockets are big enough to hide a full bottle of whiskey inside.
My wife said said she wanted to climb in beside me when she seen it. I have a pair of lads in their early 20s looking forward to getting it when I pop me clogs, many hedonistic years from now.
This is the overcoat I've been waiting to wear/own my whole life. I bought a 38, my usual coat size. It's cut big for sure--I have ape arms and the sleeves almost land at my knuckles, but that's the style, it's meant to be oversized (in my opinion) and I don't like sleeves pulling halfway up my arm when I do anything. I could fit another person inside with me, or a major down coat, which I will--I'm hoping this will function through a Vermont winter. The length is impressive: all the way to mid-calf (though I am shortish, at 5'8"), which is perfect; I don't love those overcoats that land above the knee. Could've gone a size down (36 is the smallest) but don't want to. This is what I was after. The herringbone pattern is big, sharp and bold, unlike many tweeds, and the color scheme is beautiful.
Plus it's Irish tweed, not English, and that's as it should be.
I bought this coat for my husband after searching all of my usual country brands online and in town (London). I couldn’t find anything in a raglan sleeve that felt luxurious enough to warrant the prices - bad tailoring, thin tweeds, even strangely spaced buttons and horrible cheap feeling lining. So I gave Magee a go - for a first purchase I was not disappointed. Gorgeous heavy Donegal, buttery lined pockets and my husband received a compliment the first time he wore it out, which he said he never gets!! Will certainly be shopping with Magee again soon!
